John Cena Says Goodbye at Survivor Series: WarGames

The legendary John Cena marks another milestone in his WWE career with his latest appearance at a premium live event (PLE) at Survivor Series: WarGames, which will be held at Petco Park in San Diego. This event, one of the longest-running in WWE, returns for its 39th edition, in a city that hasn’t hosted a PLE since One Night Stand in 2008. Survivor Series has historically been a springboard for the success of many superstars, including the debut of The Undertaker in 1990, who became the most successful wrestler in the event’s history. Figures like The Rock, Kurt Angle, The Shield, and Sting also made their PLE debuts at Survivor Series, and even the Elimination Chamber format premiered at this event in 2002. As is tradition since 2022, the event will include WarGames matches for both women and men, with stellar teams of five wrestlers each. In the men’s match, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Roman Reigns will team up to face Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar. On the women’s side, Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Lee will face Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Kairi Sane, Asuka, and Becky Lynch. In addition, the card includes Cena’s defense of the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio, and a match for the Women’s World Championship between Stephanie Vaquer and Nikki Bella.

Key Data and Statistics

Men’s WarGames Match

If Roman Reigns wins, he will move up to second place on the Survivor Series win list, tying with Randy Orton with 10 wins. Reigns is looking for his seventh consecutive victory at Survivor Series, as he hasn’t lost at this event since 2016. If the men’s match closes the event, history favors Reigns, who has never lost a main event match at Survivor Series, with a record of 5-0. Logan Paul and Brock Lesnar are the only competitors in this match who have never participated in a WarGames match. Jey Uso is the one with the most experience in WarGames, with three participations and an undefeated record. Drew McIntyre seeks to avoid his sixth consecutive loss at Survivor Series, as his last victory was in 2018.

Women’s WarGames Match

Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are the only participants who competed in the first women’s WarGames match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in 2019, with Ripley obtaining the victory. Sky has participated in all seven women’s WarGames matches, being the only woman to achieve this. Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Nia Jax each have four Survivor Series victories. The next victory would tie them with Mickie James and Bianca Belair for the most in the women’s division. Becky Lynch seeks her fourth consecutive victory at Survivor Series, having won in the 2022 and 2023 WarGames matches.

Intercontinental Championship: John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio

The Intercontinental Championship has not changed hands at Survivor Series since 2001. Since then, the title has been successfully defended on six occasions, including last year. This will be Cena’s first appearance at Survivor Series in eight years. His last participation was in 2017 as part of Team SmackDown. Mysterio seeks his fifth consecutive victory in a PLE, while Cena achieved his last victory in a PLE against AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in October.

Bella will seek her first victory in a PLE in over seven years. Her most recent victory was at Super Show-Down in 2018.
