SmackDown: Dragunov Champion, Rhodes DQ, Heel? WWE Analysis

3 Min Read

The last episode of “SmackDown” presented a show with ups and downs, although it left memorable moments for the fans. Despite not reaching the intensity of the previous week, the event crowned a new champion and generated new rivalries.

Dragunov Crowned United States Champion

Ilja Dragunov’s return to action was one of the highlights of the night. Dragunov, after overcoming an anterior cruciate ligament injury, responded to the open challenge for Sami Zayn’s United States Championship. In an electrifying match, Dragunov took the victory and the title, with the help of Solo Sikoa, who distracted Zayn. After the match, both were attacked by The MFTs, which could lead to future rivalries.

Cody Rhodes: A New Dark Side?

Cody Rhodes showed a more aggressive side, using the championship as a weapon against Drew McIntyre. This attitude could hint at a change in his character, although it is unlikely that he will become a heel in the short term, given his role as a main figure in WWE after John Cena’s retirement.
The confrontation between Rhodes and McIntyre continued, with Rhodes losing by disqualification after hitting McIntyre with the belt. This could have been a strategic moment for McIntyre, but it didn’t materialize.
Another key point was the attack on Jacob Fatu, who was attacked backstage, preventing him from competing for the number one contender spot. If the information about his injury is true, his return could be important for the plot.
Sami Zayn, once again, demonstrated his ability to deliver quality matches against any opponent. The event also included the defeat of Zaria and Sol Ruca against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, a match that could have been more elaborate, considering the upcoming NXT Women’s Championship match.
The night culminated in a series of events that could lead to exciting confrontations in the future, including the rivalry between The MFTs and a group of wrestlers led by Zayn, Dragunov, and Fenix, with the possible incorporation of Shinsuke Nakamura. In addition, The Wyatt Sicks are also in the mix, promising a Survivor Series: WarGames full of action on November 29.
