Indiana Fever Secures Odyssey Sims with Hardship Contract

The Indiana Fever women’s basketball team has added guard Odyssey Sims via a hardship contract, the team announced on Sunday.

The Fever were able to compete for this spot on the roster due to the injuries that have ended the season for Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.

Colson suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee, while McDonald fractured a bone in his right foot.

Additionally, Indiana is still without Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined since July 16 due to a groin injury. She has missed 18 of the Fever’s 31 games during the season.

With Colson, McDonald, and Clark out of action, the Fever lacked a pure point guard, but were unable to sign a player on a hardship contract before their August 9 game against the Chicago Sky. League rules require injured players to miss one game before teams can sign a new player. The Fever only had eight players available in their 92-70 victory against the Sky.

The incorporation of Sims provides the team with a veteran player in this position. Sims played the first part of this season with the Los Angeles Sparks, where she averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists in her 12 games with the team before being cut last month.
