Rhyne Howard, Atlanta Dream star, out with injury

The Atlanta Dream’s star player, Rhyne Howard, will not be available to play for the rest of July due to a left knee injury. The announcement was made on Monday by the team, following the diagnosis of the injury suffered during Friday’s game against the Indiana Fever.

Howard, who was the first pick in the 2022 draft, was selected for her third All-Star this month and was chosen by Team Collier. If she is unable to participate in Saturday’s event, Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will have to select a player to replace her.

The team reported that Howard is expected to make a full recovery and a timeline for his return will be provided in due course.

The 6-foot-2-inch player suffered the injury in the first half of Friday’s game and had to be carried off the court on a stretcher. Although she returned to play in the second half, participating for 14 minutes, Atlanta ultimately lost the match with a score of 99-82. Howard did not play in Sunday’s game against the New York Liberty, where the Liberty managed a 19-point comeback.

The former Kentucky player averages 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She is one of the two All-Stars on the Dream, who are currently in fifth place in the standings with a 12-9 record.
