The Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark, left Tuesday night’s game against the Connecticut Sun at the TD Garden in Boston due to an apparent groin injury, suffered in the last minute of the match, which ended with a score of 85-77 in favor of the Fever. Indiana coach Stephanie White confirmed that Clark “felt something in her groin” and will be evaluated to determine the severity of the injury. After completing a pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell for a layup with about 40 seconds remaining, Clark grabbed the inside of her right thigh, showing signs of frustration. Clark was visibly excited as she headed to the bench, covering her head with a towel. Before this season, Clark had never missed a game in her college or professional career. However, her second season in the WNBA has been marked by injuries, missing nine regular season games this summer, ten if the Commissioner’s Cup final is included.
- Clark sat out a preseason game due to a quadriceps strain, although she played the next day in an exhibition in Iowa.
- Subsequently, she was out for five games between May and June with a left quadriceps strain, and then missed another two weeks in late June and early July with a left groin injury.
White added: “We know we have a difficult rival in New York. We know it’s going to be a challenge no matter what and we have to be focused and ready to compete.”I think we’re going to go step by step. We’ll eat something, we’ll get on the plane and we’ll start talking about New York. They’re evaluating it, we’ll see where we are with that, and we’ll certainly have another evaluation, probably, and a conversation in the morning, to see where we are. But this group has played without her. At least we have experience in that.
