Caitlin Clark: Ankle Injury Delays Her Return to the Indiana Fever
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is suffering from a bone contusion in her left ankle, sources confirmed. This injury adds to the existing one in her right groin, which has kept Clark off the court for more than a month in the WNBA season.
The team announced on July 24th that there is no estimated return date for Clark. Indiana coach Stephanie White commented that the hope is that Clark can return before the end of the regular season. However, until she joins training, the situation remains the same.
A team spokesperson explained that there is no set timeline for her return, so Clark will be given the time needed to ensure she returns fully healthy. Clark has been focused on rehabilitation and individual work, with an emphasis on running the full court, but has not yet returned to practice with the Fever.
This season, Clark has only played 13 games, the last one on July 15th. Before this year, he hadn’t missed a single game in his professional or college career. Previously, he also suffered injuries to his left quadriceps and left groin.
Indiana (19-16) has nine games remaining in the regular season, looking to make the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The team is now in a delicate situation at the guard position, after losing Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham due to injuries that ended their seasons.
Clark, the first pick of the 2024 draft and part of the All-WNBA first team in her debut season, has averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season.
