Iga Swiatek Splits with Her Coach After Surprising Miami Defeat

Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek has announced her separation from her coach after an unexpected elimination in the first round of the Miami Open. The news was confirmed on Monday, generating surprise in the tennis world. Swiatek, world number 3, shared the news through an Instagram post, announcing the end of her relationship with Wim Fissette, with whom she had worked since 2024 and with whom she achieved her first Wimbledon title last year.

The 24-year-old Polish tennis player suffered a three-set defeat against Magda Linette, ranked 50th in the world, in Miami last week. This defeat ended Swiatek’s streak of 73 consecutive victories in the first round of tournaments. Swiatek acknowledged that “Miami was a challenge” and admitted to feeling “disappointment, bitterness, and responsibility for my performance on the court.” Swiatek also reported that the rest of her team will remain unchanged. “I know there are many questions, but I will let you know what’s next at the appropriate time. I will take some time to take care of myself, process this experience, and prepare for a new chapter,” she concluded.
