Spain Returns to the Davis Cup Final After Defeating Germany
BOLOGNA, Italy – The Spanish tennis team has secured its place in the Davis Cup final, thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez. In an exciting semi-final match, they overcame the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, thus achieving a crucial 2-1 victory.
Alexander Zverev kept Germany’s hopes alive by winning his match against Jaume Munar with a score of 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given Spain the first point by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in a disputed match that ended 6-4, 7-6 (6), after saving five consecutive set points in the tiebreaker.
The victory of Granollers and Martínez over Pütz and Krawietz was key, as it meant only the second defeat for the German pair in the Davis Cup.
Without the presence of Carlos Alcaraz, who is injured, the Spanish team returns to the final for the first time in six years.
Spain will face Italy, the current defending champion, who previously defeated Belgium.
