Aryna Sabalenka Criticizes “Bossy” Coaches in Tennis

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has expressed her discontent with those coaches who adopt a dominant and authoritarian attitude in tennis. The Belarusian tennis player, with an impressive track record that includes three Grand Slam titles and 20 WTA titles, has been clear in pointing out that this type of behavior has no place in the sport.

Sabalenka, known for her performance on the court, has shared personal experiences where coaches have belittled her potential, going so far as to claim that she would not achieve success in tennis. The tennis player recalled how in the past, some coaches told her that she was not intelligent enough, that she was stupid, and that she would never reach the top.

It’s not about pushing me too much. I’ve always been very motivated, and they didn’t have to push me. But I’ve heard a lot. Saying that I’m not smart enough, that I’m stupid and that I’ll never make it and that I have nothing to get to the top.

Faced with these comments, Sabalenka revealed that her reaction was simply to laugh and wait to see the results.

In recent years, Sabalenka has established herself as one of the most prominent players on the women’s circuit, with consecutive victories at the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024, in addition to the US Open 2024. Throughout her career, she has accumulated nearly 35 million dollars in prize money.

With a forceful tone, Sabalenka sent a message to these coaches, suggesting they quit their jobs, as, in her opinion, they know nothing and should stop harming other players.

Regarding her expectations at Roland Garros, Sabalenka, although among the favorites, prefers to cede that role to four-time champion Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka will face Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.
