Victoria Mboko Shocks Coco Gauff at the Canadian National Open

The young Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko starred in one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by defeating the number one seed, Coco Gauff, at the Canadian National Open. Mboko, at just 18 years old, managed to defeat Gauff with a score of 6-1 and 6-4, securing her place in the quarterfinals of the prestigious tournament. Mboko’s victory represents a milestone in her young career, especially against a player of Gauff’s caliber, who arrived as the main favorite. Gauff, on the other hand, has had an irregular performance since her triumph at the French Open, now accumulating a 2-3 record since then. The American tennis player has experienced difficulties, including problems with double faults, which were evident in the match against Mboko. Mboko, currently ranked 85th in the world, will face in the quarterfinals the winner of the match between Lin Zhu of China and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain. It is worth noting that, in a previous match in Rome in May, Gauff had managed to defeat Mboko in a round of 64 match. In other results, Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan also advanced to the quarterfinals. Kostyuk defeated McCartney Kessler of the United States with scores of 5-7, 6-3 and 6-3, while Rybakina overcame Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine with a score of 5-7, 6-2 and 7-5.
