Italy Crowned Davis Cup Champion Without Sinner

Italy continues to demonstrate its dominance in the Davis Cup, securing its fourth title without the need for its star, Jannik Sinner. In an exciting final, Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli led the way, winning their singles matches and securing an unreachable 2-0 victory over Spain.

It’s a fourth title for Italy in the Davis Cup, and the third consecutive.

The absence of Sinner, who preferred to focus on preparation for the next season, did not prevent Italy from shining. Lorenzo Musetti also did not participate in the tournament. Italy demonstrated its strength by winning all its matches 2-0 this week at the SuperTennis Arena in Bologna, overcoming Austria in the quarterfinals and Belgium in the semifinals. Spain was also affected by the absence of its star, Carlos Alcaraz. In Sunday’s final, Berrettini defeated Pablo Carreno Busta with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Then, Cobolli fought to overcome Jaume Munar with partials of 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5, securing the decisive point, as he did on the three occasions this week. Cobolli celebrated the victory with his team. Italy, which won the Davis Cup for the first time in 1976, celebrated its victories in Malaga in 2023 and 2024. This is the first time they have won at home. Spain, six-time champion, reached the final for the first time since 2019.
