American tennis player Coco Gauff won the Wuhan Open title after defeating her compatriot Jessica Pegula in a final that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Winning every match of the tournament in straight sets, I don’t know if I’ve done that before in a title run. I’m very proud of what I achieved this week, regardless of today’s result.

The match, marked by intensity, saw Gauff come back in a second set that became complicated for her. The tennis player, ranked third, saved the set in the fifth game, and then managed to break Pegula’s serve to tie the score at 5-5. Pegula, for her part, had achieved a remarkable victory in the semifinals against Aryna Sabalenka, number one in the world. However, in the final, she couldn’t maintain the pace and was outplayed by Gauff’s game. This triumph represents the eleventh title in Gauff’s career. The match in Wuhan was the seventh between both players, with Pegula leading the head-to-head with a score of 4-3. Gauff’s maturity, despite her youth, was a highlight for Pegula. Gauff improved her record in finals to 11-3, while Pegula now has a record of 9-11.
