Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open

Tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title at the WTA Japan Open, after defeating young prospect Tereza Valentova in an exciting final. Fernandez, who faced the 18-year-old qualifier, Valentova, managed to prevail with partial scores of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3, thus securing her fifth title in her professional career. The final, which marked Fernandez’s eighth appearance in a final of her career, showed a dominant start by the Canadian, who closed the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova reacted in the second set, managing to level the match after breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game. In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked 27th, secured a crucial break in the fourth game, and although Valentova put up a strong resistance, Fernandez managed to maintain her lead to secure her second title of the season, adding to her victory at the WTA 500 D.C.
