Leylah Fernandez Advances to the Japan Open Final

The tennis player Leylah Fernandez, the last seeded player at the WTA Japan Open, secured a spot in Sunday’s final after defeating Sorana Cîrstea.

Fernandez won with partials of 6-1, 2-6 and 6-4, demonstrating his ability to recover and determination on the court.

In a decisive set, with the score tied at 4-4, Fernandez managed to break Cîrstea’s serve and, subsequently, held her own serve to secure her advance to the final.

The Canadian player, seeded fourth, will face the young Tereza Valentova, who qualified for the final after defeating Jaqueline Cristian.

Valentova secured the victory with a score of 6-7 (3), 6-4 and 6-3, demonstrating her skill and potential in the tournament.

Cristian reached the semifinals after Naomi Osaka, the top seed, withdrew due to a left leg injury.

Fernandez, runner-up at the 2021 US Open, thus adds her eighth final in her career. Her previous appearance in the semifinals this season was at the WTA 500 D.C. Open, where she won her fourth WTA singles title.

Fernandez fell in three sets to Coco Gauff in the second round of the China Open at the end of September.
