Djokovic Withdraws from Adelaide Tournament: Focus on the Australian Open
Novak Djokovic has decided to withdraw from the preparation tournament for the Australian Open in Adelaide, as announced on Monday. The Serbian tennis player, winner of 24 Grand Slam titles, does not feel fully prepared to compete before the first Grand Slam of the year.Djokovic hasn’t played an official match in almost two months. His last match was on November 8th, where he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final of the Hellenic Championship in Athens. Subsequently, he announced his withdrawal from the ATP Finals for the second consecutive year, due to a shoulder injury. The Serbian tennis player has focused his preparation on the Australian Open and hopes to arrive in Melbourne soon to meet the fans. The Australian Open, played on hard court, will begin on January 18 at Melbourne Park. Djokovic has won this tournament 10 times, the last time in 2023. In the previous two editions, he reached the semifinals. Djokovic starts the current season in the number 4 position in the ranking, behind Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. This decision to withdraw from the tournament in Adelaide comes a day after Djokovic announced that he will separate from the Professional Tennis Players Association, a group he co-founded.To all my fans in Adelaide, unfortunately I am not physically ready to compete at the Adelaide International next week. It’s very disappointing for me, as I have very good memories of winning the title there two years ago. I was very excited to return, as it really felt like playing at home.
