GENEVA – Novak Djokovic returns to the Geneva Open for the second consecutive year, seeking his first clay-court victory this season before Roland Garros.

Tournament organizers announced on Friday Djokovic’s participation, which will be held from May 17 to 24, as a warm-up event for players competing in the French Open in Paris.

Djokovic, currently in sixth place in the world ranking, will seek his 100th singles title. His performance in the European clay court season has been 0-2, after quick eliminations in Monte Carlo and Madrid.

Taylor Fritz, ranked number 4, and Casper Ruud, the defending champion who has won three of the last four editions at the lakeside park club, will also participate in the Geneva tournament.

Djokovic could celebrate his birthday again in Geneva, as he will turn 38 on May 22.

Last year, he was eliminated in the semifinals of Geneva by Tomas Machac, then advanced four rounds in Paris. He withdrew due to a knee injury before facing Ruud in the quarterfinals and lost his number 1 ranking.
