Amanda Anisimova advances to Wimbledon semifinals

American tennis player Amanda Anisimova, currently ranked number 13, achieved a significant milestone by securing her place in the Wimbledon semi-finals. This will be her first appearance at this stage of the prestigious tournament, after defeating Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with a score of 6-1 and 7-6 (9) this Tuesday. At 23, Anisimova becomes the youngest American semifinalist at Wimbledon since Serena Williams in 2004, who was 22 at the time. This advance marks the second time Anisimova has reached a Grand Slam tournament semifinal, the first being at the 2019 French Open. On that occasion, Anisimova competed arduously against Ashleigh Barty, eventual champion, before falling in three sets. In May 2023, Anisimova announced that she would take a break for mental health reasons. She didn’t touch a racket for four months, resuming activity at the Auckland tournament in January 2024. She participated in the 2024 Australian Open with a protected ranking, being outside the top 400 in the world. A year earlier, at Wimbledon, she was ranked number 189 in the world and was eliminated in the final qualifying round. Her performance began to improve significantly after reaching the final of the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, where she lost to Jessica Pegula. Subsequently, in February of this year, Anisimova won her first WTA 1000 title in Doha, which allowed her to enter the WTA Top 20 for the first time in her career. Now, after his outstanding participation in Wimbledon, he is closer to debuting in the Top 10.

“It has been an extraordinary year for me, with many high moments. I have enjoyed every step of the way… I remind myself to enjoy the moment; it is not often that you can play on such a special court in front of so many special people,” Anisimova declared in an on-court interview.
