Carlos Alcaraz and 21 other professionals will participate in the tournament along with 10 amateurs.

Alcaraz leads the “One Point Slam” at the Australian Open

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will headline the new “One Point Slam” event at this year’s Australian Open, organizers announced on Tuesday. In this tournament, 10 amateurs will face 22 professionals. The overall winner will receive a prize of AUS$1 million ($700,000), an amount slightly less than what the semi-finalists in the men’s and women’s main draw will receive. The event, which will be held during the opening weekend of the Grand Slam, follows the US Open’s attempt to attract new audiences to tennis by expanding its mixed doubles competition. The “One Point Slam” will be developed as its name indicates: each match will consist of a single point. Before the match, “rock, paper, scissors” will be played to decide who will serve.

I can reveal today that world number 1, Carlos Alcaraz, will headline the list of professional players in the Million Dollar 1 Point Slam, a new and exciting initiative where one point could win you $1 million.

The registrations will open soon in clubs across the country, and during Opening Week, the finalists will compete for the opportunity to face the professionals at Rod Laver Arena. More big names will be announced soon, so now you have a million reasons to grab a racket and get ready for January.
