Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has stated that the team will seek “revenge” after a season he described as the worst in over 50 years.
United finished in 15th position, their worst performance in the top category since their relegation to the second division in 1974.
Rubén Amorim’s team has had a positive preseason in America, with two wins and a draw against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.
The players and coaching staff have returned to Manchester to finalize preparations before the start of the new Premier League season.
Before Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford on August 17, Yoro insisted that this season “will be different” from last year’s disappointing campaign.
He added: “This season will be different for us. It will be like a rematch of last season. We need to do better.” After spending more than £130 million to sign Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, United is under pressure to start the season well. Amorim will also be in the spotlight after a difficult start to his term. Yoro believes there will be critics who expect United to fail again, but the Frenchman has backed the squad to ignore external criticism and have a successful campaign.I think what we did last season was a mistake for us. When you are Manchester United, you can’t be in this position. The fans know it, everyone knows it. I think we understand this.
