Tottenham Hotspur is about to finalize the signing of Xavi Simons from Red Bull Leipzig for a sum close to 60 million euros.
The talented 22-year-old player was in London on Thursday to finalize the details of the transfer, after receiving permission to travel from Leipzig.
It has been reported that Chelsea, although showing interest during the summer, decided not to compete with a formal offer, focusing on the acquisition of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Tottenham could look to sign Fermín López from Barcelona, although they must comply with the terms of a UEFA sanction that dictates they must register a positive transfer balance in relation to last season’s Conference League squad in order to register new signings for this year’s Champions League campaign.
The imminent transfer of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan for 42 million euros will help in that regard. The future of Nicolas Jackson remains uncertain amid interest from Newcastle, Aston Villa and Juventus, but a resolution is expected before the transfer deadline on Monday.
