The Spurs have had a £50 million bid rejected for Mohammed Kudus.
West Ham United has rejected a £50 million ($69 million) offer from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to a source close to the situation.
Kudus, 24, has an £85 million release clause in his contract, which can only be activated by other Premier League clubs, although West Ham are open to letting him go for a lower fee.
The Ghanaian international joined West Ham in 2023 from Ajax and has become a prime target for new Spurs manager Thomas Frank this summer.
Tottenham is expected to return with an improved offer.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will revive their interest in Kudus, after previously making a concerted effort to sign the player when he left Ajax to go to West Ham.
Kudus has played 80 matches for West Ham, scoring 19 goals and contributing 13 assists.
