Tottenham Hotspur are showing growing confidence in closing a deal for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, valued at at least £60 million ($81 million), according to sources close to the club. Tottenham’s interest in the 27-year-old player has intensified, after his £68 million release clause expired earlier this month. Now, Spurs are hoping to negotiate a deal for a slightly lower amount. Arsenal, who had also shown interest in Eze, seems to have cooled their interest, especially after young Ethan Nwaneri signed a new five-year contract.

The Spurs, for their part, have taken the lead in the race to sign Eze. A source close to the club has confirmed that talks are ongoing and that Tottenham has submitted an initial offer of £55 million, with an additional £5 million in variables. Eze, for his part, has expressed his desire to join Tottenham, who will play in the Champions League this season after winning the Europa League in May. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has stated that he does not believe the transfer is imminent and that Eze could participate in the Conference League play-off match against Fredrikstad.

He will come to Crystal Palace’s training ground tomorrow and recover. We will make sure to have a free Tuesday and we will meet on Wednesday, and I hope he is back and plays with us against Fredrikstad.

Eze played 84 minutes in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Chelsea and had a brilliant free-kick goal disallowed by VAR in the first half.
