Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson could miss Monday’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match against Bay FC due to an excused absence. This comes amid rumors linking her to Chelsea, the current Women’s Super League (WSL) champions. Reports circulating last week suggest that Chelsea, winners of six domestic titles, are interested in 20-year-old Thompson and are looking to finalize a deal. The NWSL transfer window closed on August 25, making it difficult for Angel City, currently in tenth position, to replace the forward from the United States women’s national team, who has 22 call-ups. A source revealed that Chelsea is interested in a long-term deal for the young player. However, another source indicated that Angel City is reluctant to let Thompson go, who has been involved in eight goals in 16 league appearances this season.

Thompson’s absence from the match against Bay FC has fueled speculation about a possible transfer. Chelsea already has two of Thompson’s teammates in its ranks: defender Naomi Girma and midfielder Catarina Macario. A source reported that negotiations are ongoing, and Chelsea needs to close the deal before Thursday, September 4th, the date the WSL transfer window closes. Sources previously indicated that Chelsea has shown a constant interest in Thompson, having closely followed the 20-year-old player and her younger sister, Gisele, 19.
