Bernardo Silva Criticizes Schedule After Draw Between Arsenal and Manchester City

Manchester City player Bernardo Silva expressed his frustration after the 1-1 draw against Arsenal, accusing football organizers of a lack of “common sense and respect.” Silva argued that his team did not have the same rest time as Arsenal, which he considered an unfair disadvantage. The Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal was played just 66 hours after City played their Champions League match against Napoli. On the other hand, Arsenal had more time to prepare, having played their European match two days before City. Gabriel Martinelli’s injury-time goal equalized the score after Erling Haaland’s opening goal, sealing the draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The reality is that we cannot arrive at one of the most important matches of the season with such a disadvantage in terms of rest. It’s not fair to play a match like that. It’s simply not right.

Silva highlighted the difference in recovery time, with Arsenal having five days of rest compared to City’s two and a half. The player emphasized the importance of being in optimal physical condition for a match of this magnitude.
The footballer also mentioned Abdukodir Khusanov’s injury, pointing out the physical demands of these matches. Silva regretted that the team could not perform at its best due to this situation. Silva acknowledged the importance of calendars and various competitions, but insisted on the need for common sense, especially in crucial matches. The player stated that City did not feel in the same physical condition as Arsenal. Silva revealed that conversations have been attempted with those responsible for football, but without success. The player concluded that, out of respect for the clubs and the fairness of the competition, what happened was not appropriate. After the first five matchdays of the Premier League, Arsenal is five points behind Liverpool, while City is eight points behind the leader.
