Raphinha Reveals Tempting Offer from Saudi Arabia and His Decisive Stay at Barcelona

The Brazilian star of FC Barcelona, Raphinha, has shared details about a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabia that he considered before Hansi Flick’s arrival on the culé bench in 2024. The winger, who recently extended his contract until 2028, revealed how the new coach was key to his continuity in the team. Raphinha, after two seasons at the club, felt that many wanted him to leave. However, the confidence placed in him by Flick, who replaced Xavi Hernández, was fundamental. The German coach transformed Raphinha into an essential piece, placing him on the left wing of the attack. The result was an impressive haul of 34 goals and 26 assists in 57 matches, contributing to the conquest of LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España.

“The offer we had from Saudi Arabia really tempted me. It would have solved not only my personal life, but also that of my parents, my son… of many people,” declared Raphinha.

The player admitted that the Saudi offer was very attractive, considering the impact it could have on his life and that of his family. Initially, he contemplated the possibility of leaving, but the conversations with Flick, first by phone and then in the preseason, convinced him to stay. “I’m glad he did,” he added.
At that moment, Raphinha also felt disrespected, especially due to rumors about the club’s interest in Nico Williams from Athletic Club. The player expressed his discomfort upon seeing a photo of a fan with a Williams jersey bearing his number 11, and he feels that many still wish for his departure.
“A lot of people [wanted me to leave]. It’s impossible to name them all. Suddenly, I wasn’t doing what they thought I should do, what they thought I had to do,” commented the player. Raphinha highlighted his commitment and dedication, acknowledging that he is not a goal-scoring forward, but a player who contributes with work and effort. “I will always give my best,” he stated. He acknowledged that the lack of expectations from some fans pushed him to move forward. Last season, Raphinha exceeded expectations with 34 goals, surpassing the 20 he scored in his first two seasons. In the current campaign, he has scored three goals in seven matches, but has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury. Although it is unlikely that he will be available for the match against Girona, he is expected to recover for the Clásico against Real Madrid on October 26. His presence would be a great boost for Barcelona, which has suffered the losses of Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo due to injury.
