Pulisic misses penalty as Milan’s streak ends against Juventus in Serie A

Christian Pulisic, a key figure at AC Milan, experienced a bittersweet moment this weekend. After a remarkable streak, a missed penalty by the American proved crucial in the 0-0 draw against Juventus in Serie A. This result ended Milan’s five-game winning streak. Pulisic, who leads Milan with six goals and two assists this season, missed his penalty kick in the second half.

“Pulisic missed the penalty, but he had an extraordinary match. He has always been in charge of penalties. It is not changed by a mistake,” commented Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri.

This was only the second time in Pulisic’s professional career that he failed to convert a penalty. His current record is 13 penalties converted and two missed, adding club and national team. Milan dropped from first to third place, remaining two points behind Napoli and Roma, who won their respective matches. Juventus were one point behind, in fifth place, before the international break. Pulisic’s teammate in the United States national team, Weston McKennie, missed some opportunities for Juventus. The match offered few clear chances for both teams.

Allegri, former Juventus coach, faced his former club, which he managed in two stages and with which he won five Italian league titles. Allegri was fired by Juventus after an incident in the 2024 Italian Cup final. The penalty was awarded after Santiago Gimenez was brought down by Lloyd Kelly. In the 90th minute, Milan came close to winning thanks to a pass from Luka Modric to Rafael Leão, but the shot from the Portuguese winger was stopped by Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. Previously, Leão attempted a shot from the center of the field, but the ball did not find the goal.
