Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has downplayed the team’s growing injury list, following Marquinhos’s absence due to a left hamstring injury. Captain Marquinhos, who scored an own goal in the 1-0 defeat against Marseille, reported discomfort after the match and will be out of action until after the October international break. Marquinhos joins Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and João Neves on the injury list.

That’s football, that’s competition, that’s reality. You have to adapt. I’m not worried, that’s football at the highest level.

Luis Enrique explained that Marquinhos felt a small pain in the last play of the match against Marseille, so they didn’t want to take any risks. Furthermore, Luis Enrique highlighted the performance of Ousmane Dembélé, who was awarded the Ballon d’Or. Dembélé scored 35 goals in the 2024-25 season, including eight in the Champions League. The coach was very happy with the recognition. Luis Enrique added: “Above all, we were named team of the year, and that is the most beautiful thing. I think we deserved that honor for last season. As for Ousmane Dembélé, seeing him at this level, with the way he has played, is really great.” The coach recalled the image of Dembélé showing the Ballon d’Or to the fans: “I don’t remember seeing anything like that in the past.”
