Newcastle close to finalizing million-dollar signing

Newcastle United is on the verge of closing a deal for £64.9 million ($87.5 million) to secure the services of VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. Sources close to the club have confirmed that the German international will undergo medical examinations on Friday. It is expected that 23-year-old Woltemade will report to the club’s training facilities on Friday morning. The player, who has been called up twice by the German national team, was also wanted by Bayern Munich. However, Newcastle has taken the lead in the race for the 1.98-meter striker, after accepting an offer from Stuttgart. The arrival of Woltemade could open the door to the possible departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool. However, so far, Liverpool has not increased its offer of 110 million pounds sterling for the Swedish international, which was previously rejected by Newcastle. Newcastle has had a complicated summer in the transfer market, with difficulties in securing the arrival of a new striker. Attempts to sign Liam Delap, João Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike did not come to fruition, as each player chose to join a Premier League rival. The club is still looking to strengthen its squad, with possible moves for Yoane Wissa of Brentford and Jørgen Strand Larsen of Wolverhampton, before the transfer deadline closes on Monday at 7 p.m. BST.
