Newcastle United accelerates for Sesko while Isak generates uncertainty
Newcastle United has submitted a formal offer to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to sources close to the club. This move comes amid a situation “far from ideal” with star striker Alexander Isak, as admitted by coach Eddie Howe. The Premier League club seeks to secure Isak’s stay while trying to reinforce its attack with a renowned striker. Negotiations with Leipzig have intensified to secure Sesko, who is also in the sights of Manchester United.Although the exact value of the offer has not been confirmed, British media reports suggest that it could amount to 69.7 million pounds sterling (92.5 million dollars).
This move comes after Newcastle rejected a £110 million ($146 million) offer from Liverpool for Isak on Friday. Liverpool recently beat Newcastle to the signing of Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle’s pre-season tour due to a “slight hamstring injury”, which sparked rumors about his possible discontent. Howe admitted that he found out that Isak was training with his former club, Real Sociedad, through the media. Newcastle reportedly made an offer of 75 million euros ($86.9 million) to Leipzig, with another 5 million euros ($5.7 million) in potential add-ons.“I think, from my situation, I’m very far removed from everything that’s happening at home,” Howe commented on Isak.

“We are looking for the best players we can get. Whatever our target position, we are looking for the best, so I see all situations open and available to us. I feel that’s the only way we’re going to get to where we want to go, which is to maximize, and it’s quality over quantity. It always has been.”
