Napoli would be negotiating an initial loan for the 22-year-old player, with a purchase option or obligation for next summer. United values the Danish international, who has three years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, at around £40 million. Højlund was not called up for the first two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham, and was a substitute in the last summer friendly against Fiorentina, but did not come onto the field. Højlund arrived at United in 2023 for an initial fee of 64 million pounds. He scored 10 goals in his first season, but struggled in the last one, scoring only four times in the Premier League in 32 appearances. AC Milan, Juventus, Fulham and Celtic have shown interest in Højlund this summer. The player stated during United’s pre-season tour of the United States that his preference was to stay at the club, but his playing opportunities seem very limited following the arrival of Sesko, and he is eager to play as much as possible ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
