The statement added: “The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment.” Messi felt the discomfort at the beginning of Saturday’s match, after a contact with Raúl Sánchez and Alexis Peña from Necaxa while dribbling inside the area. During the play, Messi stumbled and hit the field with frustration, before seeking medical attention a few minutes later. Officially, he left the field in the 11th minute and went directly to the locker room. After the match, coach Javier Mascherano mentioned that the injury might not be serious, as Messi didn’t feel pain, but rather discomfort. Inter Miami tied 2-2 with Necaxa in the final minutes of the match with a goal by Jordi Alba, before winning 5-4 on penalties to obtain the additional point.
