Messi leads Inter Miami to victory against Seattle Sounders

Lionel Messi shone with a goal and an assist, guiding Inter Miami CF to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday night. The match took place just two weeks after the defeat in the Leagues Cup final against the same rival. The match represented a rematch, as the Sounders had defeated Inter Miami 3-0 in the Leagues Cup on August 31. However, Messi showed his class by assisting Jordi Alba with a masterful pass with the outside of his foot in the 12th minute, putting the Herons ahead early. Messi was close to increasing the lead in the 28th minute, but his shot hit the post. Alba returned the favor in the 41st minute, assisting Messi, who scored to put the score at 2-0. Ian Fray extended the lead to 3-0 in the first minutes of the second half, after a corner by Rodrigo De Paul.

I always look for him (Messi), he always looks for me. We have created many goals and we hope it will be like that until the end of our careers.

Jordi Alba
Obed Vargas scored the goal for Seattle in the 69th minute, on Mexico’s independence day. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano highlighted the importance of the victory after the defeat in the Leagues Cup.

It’s clearly an important and necessary victory, because the other day we came from losing a match that, in my opinion, we didn’t deserve such a lopsided result, and we had done good things, especially in the first half.

Javier Mascherano
Mascherano also addressed the team’s situation, mentioning the need to maintain competitiveness and the difficulty of managing the squad due to suspensions and injuries. Inter Miami is still without Luis Suárez, who served his second match suspension for spitting at a member of the Sounders’ coaching staff in the Leagues Cup final.
