Wrexham, a Championship team, has announced the departure of its captain, who is leaving for Derry City of Ireland after a mutual agreement. McClean, 36, joined the Welsh team in 2023, where he became a regular starter, contributing to consecutive promotions from League Two to the Championship. The winger played a total of 95 league games for Wrexham over two and a half very productive years. Now he returns to Derry City, a team in the top category of Irish football, where he played for the first three years of his career. There he will reunite with his younger brother, Patrick, who also recently joined the team.
Parkinson also added:I had a good conversation with Jimmy last week. It’s the right time for him and his family. He always wanted to return to his hometown and has the opportunity to finish his career there.

McClean’s career also includes spells in the Premier League with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion, and he won 103 caps for the Republic of Ireland before retiring from international football in 2023.He has been a great servant to the club, and we have really enjoyed working with him.
