The recent signing of Manchester United, Bryan Mbeumo, revealed details about his decision to join the Old Trafford team, explaining that he considered other offers before committing to the project led by coach Ruben Amorim. Mbeumo, coming from Brentford, became Amorim’s second star signing this summer, in a deal that could reach £71 million. Although United always led the race for Matheus Cunha, the competition for Mbeumo was intense, with Newcastle United and Tottenham also interested in the Cameroonian player. The Cameroonian international chose to join Amorim’s project at United, foregoing the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season. Mbeumo was enthusiastic about the challenge ahead. I spoke with other coaches because I wanted to know about their projects, but the one from Manchester United was very good for me. Manchester United is a great club. I think it’s a great opportunity and I chose the project. I like a challenge. There is a very good project in Manchester and I wanted to be a part of it. Mbeumo described his conversation with Amorim as “very friendly and constructive”, highlighting the coach’s clarity in explaining his vision and plans for the team. Sources close to the club indicated that negotiations with Brentford were tense, with United feeling that the club was pushing Mbeumo towards other teams. Furthermore, constant changes in the valuation of the 25-year-old player were perceived, which prolonged the transfer.
You have to be patient and try to think positively about things. I was on vacation, so I just wanted to rest mentally and physically and, if it was going to happen, it was going to happen. I trust my people and I was convinced it was going to happen.
