Martinelli’s goal in stoppage time secured a 1-1 draw for Arsenal against Manchester City in the Premier League. The match seemed to be heading for a City victory, after Erling Haaland’s goal in the ninth minute. However, Martinelli equalized the score by taking advantage of a long pass from Eberechi Eze, beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the third minute of added time. Martinelli recalled last season’s Champions League experience against Donnarumma, mentioning a great save that the goalkeeper made against him. At the beginning of the week, Martinelli also scored a crucial goal, just 36 seconds after coming on as a substitute, contributing to Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Athletic Club in their Champions League debut in Bilbao. The draw leaves Arsenal five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have won all their matches so far, and eight points adrift of City.
