Marta Returns to the Brazilian National Team

The legendary Brazilian footballer Marta has been called up again to the national team. The announcement was made by coach Arthur Elias, marking her return since last year’s Olympic final. The news has generated great expectation among fans.

Marta, considered one of the best female soccer players of all time, had announced her retirement from the national team after the 2024 Paris Olympics. In those games, the forward won her third Olympic silver medal.

The Orlando Pride player is back on the team as Brazil prepares to defend its Copa América title this year. Marta extended her career at the club in early 2025 by signing a two-year contract extension with the NWSL team.

I was with Marta recently and spoke with her. She said she is available to help the team as long as she plays at a high level, as she is doing now. Marta has had a great season and has been very important to her club, which is the champion of the American League.

Elias also highlighted the importance of Marta’s presence for the younger players and the renewal of the national team.

Marta will join the usual players from Brazil, such as Angelina from Orlando Pride, Debinha from Kansas City, and Kerolin from Manchester City. Elias is also looking to rejuvenate his team for the 2027 World Cup, including emerging talents like goalkeeper Claudia and defender Isa Haas.

We really want expectations to rise for the women’s national team and for soccer in our country. This is the work we propose and we hope that this evolution can really continue, although it is always a challenge, because we train very little with the players, we change many players to really give them opportunities.

Brazil will host Japan on May 30 and June 2. The final list for the Copa América, which will be held in Ecuador from July 12 to August 2, will be announced before a friendly against France on June 27.
