Manchester United close to signing Fridolina Rolfö
Manchester United is on the verge of securing the signing of free agent Fridolina Rolfö, according to sources close to the club. The Swedish footballer arrives after the termination of her contract with Barcelona.
Both Barcelona and Rolfö agreed to terminate the player’s contract a year earlier than planned, in June.
Rolfö, 31 years old, has been a key figure in Barcelona’s European football dominance since her arrival from German Wolfsburg four years ago.
During her time at the Catalan club, the player won 13 titles, including four Liga F titles and two Champions Leagues.
Rolfö would join a Manchester United that finished third in the Women’s Super League last season, which secured them a place in the second round of the Champions League.
Manchester United did not comment on the transfer when contacted. The Swedish international, who played mainly as a full-back or winger at Barça, scored 40 goals in 131 matches.
This summer, Rolfö helped her national team reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s European Championship, where they were eliminated by England after a tense penalty shootout.
Rolfö would become United’s second signing this window, after the arrival of her compatriot Julia Zigiotti Olme on July 31.
