Mainoo and Onana Seek Opportunity at Manchester United

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and goalkeeper André Onana will have the opportunity to prove their worth for Manchester United’s first team in the second round Carabao Cup match against Grimsby Town. Coach Ruben Amorim plans to rotate his squad for this match against the EFL League Two team. Benjamin Sesko, the £73.7 million signing from RB Leipzig, is also expected to start for the first time for United, having featured as a substitute in the first two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham. Both Mainoo, an English midfielder, and Onana, the previous starting goalkeeper, have yet to play a single minute with United this season, as has striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has also been relegated to the bench.
Kobbie Mainoo y André Onana
Kobbie Mainoo and André Onana have not been starters in Manchester United’s first two Premier League matches.Since United did not qualify for European competition this season and therefore enters the Carabao Cup in the second round for the first time since 2014, Amorim will take advantage of the match against Grimsby to rest some players and give opportunities to others.

We have three matches this week and we have quality players. We need to rotate to try to win every match.

Ruben Amorim
Amorim also added that the team needs time to develop and that the players must fight for their positions, as opportunities could change. Danish striker Rasmus Højlund, who was not called up for the matches against Arsenal and Fulham, will not play against Grimsby due to ongoing negotiations with Napoli for his transfer. In addition, Amorim confirmed that defender Noussair Mazraoui, who has been injured since the preseason, is unlikely to play against Grimsby or Burnley in Saturday’s Premier League match at Old Trafford. “Maybe he’ll be back next week, we’ll see, but it’s close,” said Amorim. “We’re finishing some exercises with him to make sure he doesn’t have another problem.”
