Liverpool Honors Diogo Jota: Full Contract Payment to His Family

Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, has confirmed that the club’s owners will honor the contract of the recently deceased Diogo Jota, paying the full amount of the remaining two years to his family. The Portuguese striker, 28 years old, lost his life in a car accident along with his brother André Silva. The tragic event occurred on July 3, only eleven days after his marriage to Rute Cardoso.
  • Slot confirms Leoni’s anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
  • Chiesa in the Champions League squad.
This decision by Liverpool’s board, Fenway Sports Group, is based on the intention to support Jota’s family, covering the entirety of the contract that extended until the end of the 2026-27 season.

“I am very proud of the reaction of the fans and the management… The way they have handled this situation, paying his wife and children all the money from the contract, is something that people might think is normal, but it is not in football.”

The coach added: “It’s incredible what our fans have done and our players too, the way they have behaved during the funeral.
