Lily Yohannes, USA star, close to Lyon: Bombshell signing in women’s football

The talented midfielder of the United States women’s national team, Lily Yohannes, is about to finalize her transfer to the prestigious French club OL Lyonnes, according to multiple sources. The French team, recognized for its eight Women’s Champions League titles, has reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of the 18-year-old American footballer. Yohannes is expected to finalize personal terms with Lyonnes in the coming days. Yohannes’ contract with Ajax was valid until June 2026.

Chelsea, the current champion of England, had also shown interest in signing Yohannes. Yohannes has represented the United States on eight occasions. He scored a goal 10 minutes into his debut in June 2024, at only 17 years old. In November, Yohannes confirmed his decision to play for the United States at the international level, after also considering the possibility of representing the Netherlands, where he was in the process of obtaining citizenship. Born in Virginia, Yohannes moved with her family to the Netherlands at the age of 10. She signed her first professional contract with Ajax at the age of 15. In 2023, at 16 years old, Yohannes became the youngest player to start in a Women’s UEFA Champions League match, playing for Ajax in the 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
