Richard Ledezma Joins Chivas After Finishing His Contract with PSV Eindhoven

American soccer player Richard Ledezma is set to join Liga MX team Chivas once his contract with PSV Eindhoven expires this summer.

Ledezma, 24, has been at the Eredivisie club since 2020, where he scored two goals in 38 appearances.

Despite the contract extension offer from PSV, the versatile defender/midfielder has agreed to a four-year contract with the Mexican club.

Other clubs in Mexico, as well as teams in Italy and one in the English Championship, had also shown interest in Ledezma.

Richard Ledezma will join Chivas after leaving the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven this summer.

In January, it was reported that Ledezma had received interest from Club América of Liga MX, but the Dutch champion rejected the approach.

Ledezma’s future in the international arena is uncertain. The coach of the Mexican national team, Javier Aguirre, confirmed in February that he contacted Ledezma, who has dual nationality, before the March international window to discuss his future with El Tri.

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, to Mexican parents, Ledezma has played exclusively for the USMNT, debuting with the U-20 in March 2018 against France, before playing with the United States youth national team on three other occasions.

He made an appearance with the United States national team, in a friendly against Panama in November 2020.

However, Ledezma, who possesses both American and Mexican passports, is still eligible to play for El Tri.

Ledezma won his first Eredivisie title last weekend as PSV sensationally overcame Ajax, having previously been nine points behind with five games remaining in the season.
