Haaland Postpones His Date with 100 Goals in the Premier League

Erling Haaland will have to wait a few more days to join the exclusive club of players with 100 goals in the Premier League. The Norwegian striker failed to score in Manchester City’s 3-2 victory over Leeds United on Saturday. Haaland is in a race against time to break Alan Shearer’s record as the fastest player to reach 100 goals. The Norwegian striker is only one goal away from the centenary mark after 110 games. Shearer set the record in 1995, achieving 100 goals in his 124th match. It would have been a special moment if Haaland had scored his 100th goal against Leeds, the city where he was born, halfway through his father, Alfie Inge Haaland’s, three-year spell at the Yorkshire club.

Erling Haaland can break the record against Fulham on Tuesday. He still has room to break Shearer’s record, although he has a long way to go to reach the title of top scorer in the league: Shearer is the historical top scorer in the league with 260 goals. Phil Foden scored the winning goal in stoppage time to give City the victory over Leeds by 3-2. Leeds, who were struggling, surprisingly came back from 2-0 down at halftime to draw and put themselves in sight of an unexpected and much-needed three points in the Premier League.
