Thomas Frank Apologizes After Tottenham Defeat

Tottenham coach Thomas Frank offered apologies to the fans after the resounding 4-1 defeat against Arsenal in the North London derby. Despite the result, Frank refused to blame the defensive system implemented for the match. The match, which was played on Sunday, saw Leandro Trossard open the scoring in the 36th minute. Eberechi Eze was the star of the match by scoring a hat-trick, the first in a North London derby in 47 years. Tottenham’s only goal was an impressive long-range shot by Richarlison. Tottenham, who played with a five-man defense, had only two shots throughout the match, with a total expected goals of 0.07, the lowest figure in the Premier League this season.

I think they are three different matches. I think the match against United was a much better performance than today and the one against Chelsea. I also think there is a difference between the performances against Chelsea and Arsenal. Although both seem bad on paper. I need to watch this again too.

Frank added: “I think there’s definitely a lot to work on still. I think it’s fair to say we’re very disappointed and unhappy with today’s performance. I don’t want to shy away from that.” When asked if Frank had made the wrong choice of lineup, which included Kevin Danso alongside Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero in a five-man defense, while Xavi Simons, Mathys Tel, Brennan Johnson, Lucas Bergvall and Randal Kolo Muani were on the bench, the coach responded:

I am a big believer that, no matter what system you play, you can be successful. I completely understand the question and will always assume full responsibility. Full responsibility will always fall on me today, when we don’t perform.

Tottenham drops to seventh place in the table and will face Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning Champions League champion, on Wednesday.
