Gotham FC Crowned 2025 NWSL Champion
Gotham FC won the 2025 NWSL championship, after defeating the Washington Spirit with a score of 1-0. The match, witnessed by a crowd of 18,000 fans at PayPal Park, saw an exciting duel that culminated in Gotham’s victory. The decisive goal came in the 80th minute, thanks to Rose Lavelle, who took advantage of a pass from Bruninha to secure the victory. This was Lavelle’s second goal in an NWSL final, demonstrating her outstanding performance in crucial moments. In addition, Lavelle was named the Most Valuable Player of the match. For Gotham, this title represents their second championship in three years under coach Juan Carlos Amorós, a significant achievement considering the team reached the final from eighth position in the table. The road to the title included victories over the Kansas City Current and the Orlando Pride. The defeat was a hard blow for the Washington Spirit, who for the second year in a row were left at the gates of the championship. The pre-match expectation centered on the participation of Trinity Rodman, from the Spirit, who was recovering from a knee injury. Although she was not a starter, Rodman entered the field in the 56th minute, but did not manage to influence the game as expected.
