Eriksen criticizes Man United legends: “Negative opinions don’t help”

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has expressed his opinion on the impact of comments from former players on the team. In an exclusive interview, Eriksen pointed out that at United they are expected to fight for the Premier League title every season, and that domestic cups do not receive the same importance as in other clubs. The Danish player believes that it is time to be more “realistic”.

It probably depends on who you ask. If you ask a fan, they want to win the league again every year for the next 20 years like they did… In this era of football it’s almost impossible, doing it with so many other clubs that have so many good players. It’s difficult.

Eriksen added that, although the club aims to regain its stability as an elite team, winning the FA Cup and the League Cup in the last two seasons is something any other club would be proud of.

The midfielder also highlighted the magnitude of the club and the feeling that, sometimes, achievements are not valued enough. “Even the League Cup is something small, but at that moment it’s something big,” he stated. United legends, such as Gary Neville, have frequently commented on the club, especially during a difficult season that places them in eleventh position after five matches.

Eriksen left United at the end of his contract last summer and joined Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga as a free agent. When asked if the opinion of former players has an impact on United, Eriksen replied: “You see how big the club is, how many people want to get involved with the club, even in media attention. I think even now we’re talking about United here. It’s just the power of the club.” “Obviously, the more they give their opinion, the more negative the feelings towards the club are, the more difficult it is, because the fans follow their heroes on television and that doesn’t help the club’s players.” He continued by saying that, as a United footballer, there is always someone who has an opinion, but that the important thing is to focus on the game. Eriksen highlighted that United used to be good at that, focusing on the game and not so much on what people said.
