American forward Damion Downs joins Southampton from FC Cologne on a four-year contract. Downs, 21, participated in the Concacaf Gold Cup.
In the previous season, Downs stood out by scoring 10 goals and assisting five times, contributing to Cologne’s promotion to the Bundesliga after winning the German second division.
Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will host Wrexham in their first Championship match on August 9.

According to reports, Southampton would pay up to 10 million euros for the American player. Downs joins a growing list of American forwards in the English second division. His Gold Cup teammate, Patrick Agyemang, is also close to joining Derby County.I believe Southampton is a great club that should be in the Premier League, and that is my goal: to help the team as much as I can to bring the club back to the Premier League.
