Max Dowman Makes History With Arsenal

Arsenal’s young prospect, Max Dowman, has made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the youth team’s history in the Premier League 2. The footballer achieved this feat in his first start in the competition. At just 15 years and 263 days old, Dowman surpassed the previous record set by Reiss Nelson, who achieved it at 16 years and 57 days in 2016. The English youth international is one of the most promising teenagers in world football. He made his debut for Arsenal’s first team against Leeds last month, after standing out in the pre-season. Dowman, the second youngest player to debut in the Premier League for the club, behind Ethan Nwaneri, also came off the bench in the defeat against Liverpool, ahead of established players.

In his second appearance and first start, Dowman made his mark. Dowman scored in the 65th minute to tie the match against Wolves, after Arsenal had fallen behind 2-0. From the right side of the area, Dowman cut inside onto his right foot, shifted back onto his left, and scored with a low, controlled shot.

Midfielder Andre Harriman-Annous completed the comeback with a penalty in the 99th minute, securing the three points. Dowman’s goal adds to his rapid rise through the ranks of the Arsenal academy. He debuted with the Under-18 team at the age of 13 and participated in the UEFA Youth League, where he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the competition during a group stage match against Atalanta last September. The Arsenal first team returns to Premier League action on Sunday with a clash against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, where Dowman is unlikely to feature.
