Donnarumma arrives at City: Ederson leaves, Guardiola reinforces the goal

Gianluigi Donnarumma arrives at Manchester City

Manchester City has finalized the incorporation of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, coming from Paris Saint-Germain. The Italian international arrives at the Etihad Stadium in a deal valued at 30 million euros (40.2 million dollars). Donnarumma has signed a five-year contract to reinforce Pep Guardiola’s squad. The arrival of Donnarumma comes after the departure of Ederson, who ended his eight-year spell at City to join Fenerbahce for 14 million euros.

I am joining a squad full of world-class talent and a team led by one of the best coaches in the history of football, Pep Guardiola. This is a club that any player in world football would love to join. I have admired Manchester City for many years, so now being able to play for the club is a great honor and a privilege,” declared Donnarumma.

Donnarumma, winner of the Champions League with PSG last season, will compete with James Trafford for the starting position under Guardiola’s goalposts. Trafford, who returned to the club from Burnley in a £27 million deal earlier in the summer, has started in City’s first three Premier League matches. Ederson bid farewell to the Etihad after a brilliant spell in Manchester, during which he won 15 major titles, including six Premier League titles. He was also included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year on two occasions and won the Premier League Golden Glove award three times in a row between 2020 and 2022.

With Pep, we have won and dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe. It has been incredible. I arrived in Manchester eight years ago full of hope, but I could not have predicted such a beautiful time together.
