Angel Di Maria Returns to Rosario Central

Argentine forward Ángel Di María has confirmed his return to his native country to play for his childhood club, Rosario Central. The announcement was made on Thursday by the Argentine Primera División club.

“Our story together has more pages to write. Welcome home,” declared the Rosario club through a video posted on social media.

Rosario Central

Di María, 37, who retired from international football last year, began his career at Rosario Central in 2005, before joining Benfica in 2007.

Subsequently, the player played for renowned teams such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, before returning to Benfica in 2023.

Di María was close to signing with Rosario last summer, but he changed his plans due to the increase in drug-related violence in the region and threats against his family. The winger has won 30 titles during his career in Europe, in addition to six international honors with Argentina, including two Copa América titles, the 2022 World Cup, and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Di María will join Rosario Central after Benfica’s participation in the Club World Cup next month in the United States, where the Portuguese club is in Group C along with Bayern Munich, Boca Juniors and Auckland City.
