Jonathan David is preparing to join Juventus.
Juventus has reached an agreement to sign Canadian international Jonathan David as a free agent from Lille, according to sources close to the club.
The forward reached an economic agreement with the Turin team after their 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid and their elimination from the Club World Cup. David is expected to travel to Italy in the coming hours to undergo a medical examination and sign his contract.
Juventus had been interested in David for some time and had followed him previously when Cristiano Giuntoli was sporting director, although the club’s organizational structure changed afterwards. However, the interest remained even with the arrival of the new duo, Damien Comolli and Giorgio Chiellini.
The 25-year-old player arrives as a free agent after not renewing his contract with Lille and joins Juventus as an important player, ready to be at the disposal of coach Igor Tudor immediately.
Juventus’ decision to accelerate and close the deal for David further distances Dušan Vlahović from the team, as his departure from Serie A seems almost certain.
Meanwhile, Lille has confirmed the signing of France’s all-time top scorer, Olivier Giroud, who signed a one-year contract with the club, marking a sensational return to Ligue 1, 13 years after his last participation in the French top flight.
The 38-year-old striker, who scored 57 goals in 137 matches with Les Bleus, arrives from Los Angeles FC of the MLS.
